Apologies to those who were close to the Cheltenham winning post in the club enclosure at just after 2.25pm on Saturday.
A group of men, mostly of a certain age, and one woman caused an almighty din when Ga Law got up on the line to win the Paddy Power Gold Cup having been tipped in this newsletter at 10-1.
My racing team don’t get to the track that often these days so we make sure we enjoy the winners as and when they arrive: men the size of second-row rugby forwards were hoisted into the air and the loud whoops of joy did not go unnoticed by those nearby.
In fact, Ga Law was the second 10-1 winner at Cheltenham for this newsletter in as many days. Unanswered Prayers had won the previous day after being tipped last week. So I am pleased to report that this jumps’ season is, yet again, nicely in profit.
It was frustrating that the drying ground prompted two non-runners in the two big weekend handicaps but that is the ups and down of ante post betting in a nutshell: you lose the lot when a horse doesn’t line up, you win big when everything goes right.
But I am afraid in the past few days several followers of this newsletter have had their accounts “restricted” – that’s code for “closed” – by their bookmakers.
It seems that one or more bookies have used an algorithm that detects a large number of bets on a certain horse or horses within an hour or two of my newsletter dropping each week. And/or a bookie or two may be subscribing to the newsletter as it's entirely free.
My tips have consistently shown an overall profit and so the accounts of my followers up and down the country have been shut down, even though the overall winnings by individuals are relatively modest (in some cases just a few hundred pounds).
Bookmaker accounts being closed are no good to followers of this newsletter, or any other punters, so that's farewell from me.
We have three open bets still to run from earlier newsletters so good luck to one and all with those.
It has been just over a year of fun and games with these newsletters and - with a 50-1 and two 33-1 winners – profitable while it lasted. But all good things come to an end. Over and out.
